From the Fridge to a Night Serum – why these foodie ingredients are essentials

We’ll all search high and low for the best skincare, but really some of the most effective ingredients can be found in your kitchen. Skincare specialist, and founder of Bedew Skin, Rachael Robertson says: “There are many food products that offer benefits when you eat them, like antioxidants, vitamin C, calcium and more. But some of these ingredients can also be formulated for use in skincare to provide amazing benefits and cause effects which can help other ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin, so you will see results on the outside.”

Below Rachael explains why Bedew Skin Night Serum (£34 includes Chilli, Radish Root, Soybean, and Sea Buckthorn Berry, and the benefits they have on your skin – especially at night…

“Capsicum frutescens fruit derives from the plant or the fruit of hot peppers, and Capsaicin is a compound that is isolated from hot peppers. Capsaicin is responsible for the hot burning feeling that results when you eat or handle a hot pepper. Formulated for skincare, capsaicin results in vasodilation thereby increasing blood flow in the skin which promotes healthier looking and feeling skin. It also increases circulation, tone, and firmness and can cause the skin to appear plumper.”

“Radish root ferment filtrate is a cutting edge, probiotic preservative derived from radishes fermented with leuconostoc kimchii; a lactic acid bacterium that has traditionally been used to make kimchi. It is shown to have amazing antimicrobial benefits, as well as being beneficial for acne prone skin as it prevents growth of active bacteria at the skin’s surface. On top of that, it’s a highly effective moisturiser and calming agent, which helps alleviate dry, cracked skin, reduce swelling, and can regulate the skin’s oil production.”

“Glycine soja (soybean) seed extract is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent for the skin. Glycine soja (soybean) seed extract has vitamin E, allowing it to protect the skin from free radial damage and reduce the effects associated with the aging process such as wrinkles and fine lines.”

“Due to its high content of carotenoids, Sea Buckthorn Berry has potent cell-regenerating, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This stimulates the formation of new cells and skin’s metabolic processes, which makes it perfect to use in your night skincare routine as the skin’s metabolic rate increases at night which means that skin cells turn over more quickly at night and production of new cells increases. Sea buckthorn berry is excellent for reducing acne breakouts because it signals the oil glands to stop creating excess amounts of sebum. Sea buckthorn will reduce inflammation in the skin, prevent future flare ups, help to fade scars and promote an overall more even and smoother skin texture.”

All the above ingredients are used in Bedew Skin’s Night Serum (£34,, which also includes Glycerin, Rose Water, Vitamin A acetate (retinol), Niacinamide, Collagen, and Squalane. These ingredients combined help this serum show you the true definition of ‘beauty sleep’, as you wake up with healthy, refreshed, glowing skin no matter how many hours of sleep you actually get.
