7 Spring Cleaning tips to make a change

Feather & Black have uncovered that 56% of people consider their bedrooms messy in a recent survey found online, suggesting many people don’t know that a messy bedroom can impact your sleep quality and general mood.

According to a study by the Sleep Foundation, a tidy bedroom can increase sleep quality by up to 20%. So, with spring cleaning season upon us, Feather & Black have delved into the importance of bedroom organisation and have shared their top seven expert tips:

1. Declutter with the 90/90 rule

Laura Burnett, a luxury bedroom expert from Feather & Black comments:

“Spring is the perfect time to declutter your bedroom. To do this, try using the 90/90 rule: eliminate items not used in the past 90 days and unlikely to be used in the next 90. This helps you to create a more organised and visually appealing bedroom, setting the stage for restful sleep.”

2. Refresh your bedroom layout

Rearranging the layout of your bedroom and incorporating statement furniture pieces can help to add both organisation and sophistication to your space.

Laura Burnett comments:

“While you’re moving things around to spring clean, use the opportunity to revitalise your bedroom. Try moving your bed to a different part of the room, or adding a stylish new wardrobe. Experimenting with different arrangements will help you find the perfect balance between form and function, making your bedroom feel fresh and inviting for months to come.”

3. Upgrade your bedding

Your sleep quality can be lowered if you use low-quality bedding. Instead, invest in high-quality bedding to ensure you are comfortable and that your body is able to maintain the right temperature while you sleep.

Laura Burnett comments:

“As part of your spring cleaning, have a refresh of your bedding collection and invest in luxurious, high-thread-count linens, plush pillows, and a supportive mattress to create a comfortable sleep environment.

“You should choose light, breathable fabrics to keep you cool during warmer spring nights before swapping these for thicker fabrics for the winter months.”

4. Establish a nightly reset routine

Laura Burnett shares their advice on the important of a nightly reset routine:

“You should spend just five minutes each night to reset your bedroom by putting away clothes, tidying surfaces, and preparing your space for a good night’s sleep.

“Not only will this simple routine help maintain the luxury and organisation achieved during your spring cleaning efforts, but creating a bedtime habit will tell your brain that it is time to wind down.”

5. Incorporate greenery and earth tones

Laura Burnett comments:

“Plants have a number of benefits when it comes to sleep quality, and they are a great way to incorporate relaxing earth tones into your bedroom.

“Refresh your bedroom with a touch of nature by adding plants during your spring clean, the perfect decoration for the season of growth. Choose low-maintenance plants, such as a snake plant or pothos, which will also help purify the air, promote relaxation and improve well-being.”

6. Introduce calming fragrances

Research has shown that our sense of smell is lowered while we sleep, but that doesn’t mean your bedroom can’t benefit from the addition of calming fragrances.

Laura Burnett comments:

“Many cleaning products have citrus or chemical smells which aren’t the best when trying to create a relaxing space. If possible, try to use fragrance-free and natural products when spring cleaning in your bedroom.

“Once you’ve finished cleaning, use essential oils or candles with calming fragrances, such as lavender or chamomile, to create the perfect, soothing atmosphere for sleep.”

7. Rotate and clean your mattress

A well-maintained mattress is essential to a healthier sleeping environment and improved sleep quality, which is why it is so important to invest in a high-quality mattress to begin with.

Laura Burnett comments:

“Many people often overlook their mattress when spring cleaning.

“Rotating it every six months will help maintain its support and improve longevity. You can also hoover the surface and use a mattress protector to keep it clean and fresh for a healthier sleeping environment.”

Laura Burnett emphasises the significance of spring cleaning and creating a luxurious bedroom environment:

“A thoughtfully organised and tidy bedroom plays a crucial role in improving your sleep quality and overall wellbeing.

“Our hectic lives can often lead to us feeling stressed and tired, which makes it even more important to have a personal sanctuary where we can unwind and relax.

“By incorporating these tips into your spring cleaning routine, you’ll not only transform your bedroom into a haven of relaxation but also set the foundation for healthier sleeping habits and increased productivity – investing in your bedroom environment is an investment in your overall health and happiness.”
