These are the most popular days to get married in 2022

Exclusive data from Hitched reveals the most common days to get married in 2022

August is well regarded as the most common month to get married in the UK, thanks to the warmer weather and longer days, and Saturdays are usually the favourite thanks to most people having weekends free from work.

Analysing the more than 156,500 UK weddings planned for 2022 using leading wedding planning, wedding experts can now reveal exclusively that this coming Saturday, August 20th, is the most popular date to get married in 2022

Of the 25,431 weddings planned via Hitched for August 2022, 3,515 are set to happen this Saturday.

The following weekend, of Friday 26th, Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th August was also revealed to be the most popular weekend for UK weddings, with almost a fifth of all August weddings, a whopping 4,779 couples set to say “I do” over the three days of the bank holiday weekend.

September is also set to see a number of popular wedding dates, with Saturday 3rd September being the second-most popular day to get married this year. According to the experts, 3,273 couples are set to tie the knot on the first Saturday in September, and another 3,005 the following Saturday, the 10th of September.

Yet, September is only the fourth most-common month to get married, with an expected 20,500 couples due to have their weddings that month.

Following August, the most popular months to get married in the UK are July and June, with almost 45,000 weddings happening over these two typically sunny months. This June saw 20,511 couples tie the knot, while July saw almost 20% more weddings than June, with 24,209 couples saying “I do”.

Rima Barakeh, wedding expert and deputy editor of Hitched says: “Although peak wedding season technically runs from May through to October, it’s no surprise to see June, July and August topping the list of most popular months to get married.

“August has always been a busy month for weddings as it’s (usually) a month of good weather – perfect for those outdoor wedding ceremonies, and also coincides with school summer holidays which largely benefits nearlyweds and wedding guests with children.

“Though September was the fourth most popular wedding month, Saturday weddings are expensive – even more so in summer – so it comes as no surprise that two September Saturdays made it into the top five most popular wedding dates. September is a great month for weddings as the summer sun tends to stick around throughout the months and with summer holidays over for most, it can be slightly cheaper than June, July and August.”

The research also revealed that half of all weddings planned for 2022 will happen on a Saturday, with a whopping 78,860 couples getting married on the first day of the weekend.

However, a number of weekdays are also quite popular with nearlyweds. Fridays in 2022 will see more than 26,500 weddings take place (17% of all 2022 weddings), with Thursdays proving popular as the third-most common day to get married. Almost 1-in-10 couples will get married on a Thursday in 2022, with 14,162 weddings planned for a Thursday.

Rima adds: “The rise in weekday weddings is likely due to the fact that getting married outside of the weekend can save you thousands on your wedding venue hire. The price difference between a Saturday wedding and one booked on a Monday or Tuesday can be enormous and savvy couples who want to keep costs low are willing to make the compromise.”
