As so many of us plan trips to Europe this summer or bask in Britain’s hottest weather to date, new research from RAMONA’S has shown that when it comes to cooking, almost 70% of us take inspiration from our travels and over 68% of us are turning our hand to Mediterranean-inspired cuisine over the warmer months.
The new research, which surveyed consumers specifically on the Mediterranean diet, also revealed the public’s top culinary choices when it came to cooking, topping the list was Pasta, followed by Kebabs, whilst halloumi, Houmous and Falafel were also named as top favourites for everyday cooking.
With 93% of those surveyed stating that health benefits play a large part in them choosing to eat the Mediterranean way, a resounding 92% also said the colour and freshness associated with the produce and cuisine were also an attractive factor.
At a time when people are tightening their belts, the research also showed that 93% felt Mediterranean foods were fantastic for sharing, and helped make mealtimes stretch that little bit further.
Indeed, pasta dishes and vibrant salads are a great way to feed a crowd on a small budget, whilst a spread of simple dips, cold meats and cheeses are perfect for entertaining for a lunch or alfresco meal.
With some Brits opting to stay at home this summer to save money, it looks likely that fresh produce that is vibrant and healthy will be favourite, especially if the sun continues to shine. In fact, 68% of those surveyed said they live by the idea of ‘Eating the Rainbow’ and 82% said health is a factor when planning ideas for at home entertaining.
